Scottsdale Community College New Sciences Building (Scottsdale, AZ)
Special requests from the Plant Sciences and Geology Departments to use the landscape as an outdoor classroom had a significant impact on the design. Plant Sciences selected six habitats to be represented in the landscape surrounding the building. Geology wanted to represent a variety of rock types in their natural relationships.

Sun, shade, wind, building exposure, drainage, detention requirements and microclimates were considered in the placement of each habitat. 125 plant species were incorporated. The landscape also provides climate mitigation in a multitude of gathering areas and along walkways.
