|Leading the aesthetic development, C.F. Shuler, Inc. bridged three engineering contracts on this five mile section of US 95 through urban Las Vegas, Nevada. Aesthetics include development of wall graphics, landscape concepts and supporting irrigation design. Over 20 miles of walls and bridge rails were designed.|
The firm worked closely with the lead structural engineer to integrate cost saving design measures and ensure constructability of retaining and sound walls. Wall graphics had to accommodate walls of varying heights from 4 feet to over 30 feet and work easily with a variety of construction methods. A key to design efficiency was the development of a highly versatile pattern that, when repeated, did not have a cookie cutter effect.
Although landscape opportunities were limited except at interchanges, bold three-dimensional earth graphics were developed to maintain sense of place, use water efficiently and enhance the driving experience. High visual appeal is maintained while conserving resources with low maintenance and low water use requirements.
